Studio Advisor: Jennifer Ackerman
Fabrication Method: CNC Milling
Term: Spring 2019
Shop: UTK Fab Lab
The Four by Eight CNC chair project explores the limitations of material and external assembly modes. The full-scale, digitally designed and CNC milled chair was made from one four foot x eight foot quarter inch thick plywood sheet. No glue, nails or adhesive of any sorts was used in the assembly of this project. In addition to its material and assembly innovations, the fabrication process of Four by Eight exemplifies precision and meticulous attention to detail.
The utilization of CNC milling technology allowed for the creation of intricate, custom-cut components that seamlessly fit together, resulting in a chair that challenges conventional techniques and embodies the artistry of digital craft.
