Carved Blocks explores fundamental geometric principles to generate and calibrate architectural mass. The work explores geometric methods of construction that transform a generic primitive into an articulated mass with specific formal and spatial qualities.

Two 6” x 6” x 6” models were digitally designed then fabricated using chip board. The gray model explores straight lines and flat surfaces and the white model explores radial curves and developed surfaces to the right at the top.

The two 6” x 6” x 6” models were then scaled up to 12” x 12” x 12” and digitally combined. The cubes were laser cut and assembled to create the models to the right in the middle.

The bottom layer explores Moon Viewing (Tsukimi) as a narrative for examining the combination models from above. The inhabitation of these combined spaces is determined by a designed procession that leads from the entry to a point of interest and allows moments to reflect upon the moon in the night sky.
